SCIHO Update

We would like to thank so many people and organizations over the last four years for helping to build South Central Indiana Housing Opportunities as a locally-based nonprofit housing organization dedicated to expanding housing options for low- and moderate income households in our community. We are grateful to the Bloomington Housing Authority for the seed funding and organizational support to launch SCIHO.

Unfortunately, despite the continuing need for more affordable housing in the community, SCIHO’s revenues have not been sufficient to continue sustainable operations. COVID-19 has made the challenges for community-based nonprofits such as SCIHO even more difficult.

We must inform you that effective September 1, 2020, SCIHO is ceasing operations. We will honor all outstanding obligations in full.

In brief:

  • We are pleased that South Central Community Action Program, currently the property manager of Switchyard Apartments, has welcomed the opportunity to accept a transfer of ownership of the property.
  • It is a pleasure to share that Prosperity Indiana is acquiring the Housing4Hoosiers website and Help Desk service to offer a truly statewide resource to provide essential guidance on renters’ rights and responsibilities.

SCIHO is proud of our development of affordable housing at Switchyard Apartments, the launch of the Housing4Hoosiers.org renter education resources, and other initiatives aimed at supporting housing stability for people of all ages, incomes, and abilities.

We deeply appreciate your support for “Housing for All” in our community, and wish you the best to stay safe in these challenging times.

Yours sincerely,
